I’m the only one in my position (out of 6) that is a father, but I have to work on Father’s Day. Even after someone else volunteered to work for me today.
I notified my boss that I won’t be able to work July 4th. The symphony is playing the fireworks concert that evening and I have to be available for most of the day. At work we’ll have severly reduced staffing. We’ll only need one person at my level to open and one more to close. Did I mention there are 6 of us? The response was “I’m tired of making exceptions for you, especially with all of the sick time you’ve taken.” I was out sick for a day and a half last month.
A project management job came available in my department. I was not even allowed to interview for the position because I’ve not been a permanent employee for 6 months. I’ve been in exactly the same job for 6 months, but only half of it as a permanent employee. Meaning that if I didn’t already work here I’d have a better chance at getting the position.
Knowing these things, how much would you want to come into work today?

Sounds like your manager is not looking out for you! Better find something else before you get too settled in.
Just my 2c.
Isn’t it annoying when managers demand just a little too much from their employees, and yet often they fail to offer anything in return. Seems to me that perhaps you should be expanding your horizons…?

Do you have some compelling reason to stay in this job?
Man! It sounds like your manager is not a very good one. If I was in that position, I’d have to start looking for a new job. I hope things start going better for you, though.
