Face, exposed

Don’t know if you’ve wondered, but I sure have. Where did these new blogs come from all of the sudden? A couple have gotten quite a bit of press in the last few weeks. I had a name for one blog - the Colorado Index - and credit him with getting me off of my backside and writing again (thanks, Tom)!

The other - Face the State - burst on the scene with the much-publicized “place in hell” email from the state legislature. Who was this? And why? They had resources, to be sure. For many of us right-leaning (or right-pulling, as the case may be) these 2 sites have been goldmines of linky goodness. Well, the Westword has spilled the beans on the latter site. Face the State gets the full-blown treatment in this week’s rag. And he really does get the full treatment - check this paragraph:

Mainstream media outlets reported widely on the scoop, which might have been labeled an unmitigated victory for the fledgling website if bloggers from Colorado Confidential and Colorado Media Matters hadn’t quickly pointed out Jones’s long resumé as a right-wing political operative whose work history includes the campaigns of Doug Lamborn, Shawn Mitchell and Bob Schaffer.

“The thing is, he’s not some innocuous blogger,” says Colorado Democratic Party chair Pat Waak. “He really has a long history of pulling dirty-tricks kind of stuff, and this is the same thing.”

Certainly no bone to pick here, is there Westword? Wow, and in just the 3rd paragraph. So at least we know where we stand with the writer of the article, Jared Jacang Maher.

I remember the CU bake sale incident, and thought it quite clever at the time - much like the scholarship offered to white students at Boston University last year. Hypocrisy doesn’t care much for daylight.

So these are everyday reads for me now. Both blogs work hard at what they do, and they both accomplish a great deal. And they both spread that light exposing the media, the state legislature and local unions for what they are (and what they manifest, perhaps more importantly). Mr. Maher obviously doesn’t care much for Brad at Face the State. He’s certainly not going to change that opinion if he were to interview Colorado Index’s Tom, either. Standing in the face of adversity, but standing in front of and defending bloggers like me - and those who support us - make both of these blogs even more important as leaders in our particular niche. Thanks to both of you!

UPDATE: Aack. I’m guilty of exactly what I accused Jared Jacong Mahang with - making an unfair generalization. To be fair, he’s written plenty of good about the Face the State author, too

It’s funny. I’m getting near identical criticism from bloggers on the left who say I was TOO nice to Brad. Oh well. But I do take issue with the statement that I don’t like Mr. Facethestate. Please! I’ve been writing quite affectionately about his stunts since his bake sale days. We’ve also kept in regular contact. He’s a hell of a much more entertaining interview than most of the self-satisfied liberal activists out there — not to mention their pissy conservative counterparts — who see anything less than a blatant blow-job article as an evidence of bias.

    Jared,

You’re right - I made what I thought was a pretty safe assumption, but it was still a negative assumption. My apologies for painting with too broad a brush; ironically, what I thought you were doing!

Agree with you that Tom’s Colorado Index has some insightful commentary to keep an eye on. Another is our KnowYourCOURTS.com for legal ethics related content that’s previously wasn’t available online. Any implied opinion on that site is backed up by the documents right there, or it’s not likely to get posted.
