It’s a Monday

Boy, ain’t it. I’m feeling it, too. I played the Messiah twice over the weekend - once for Gateway High School (the symphony provided some “support,” meaning we gave them an orchestra to back up their 200-voice combined choir) and another for the LDS church in Castle Rock, CO. That one is always enjoyable because they bring in such high quality soloists. Somehow I’ve become the first call trumpet for the area Mormons. Go figure.

Only 4 more performances to get through. Unfortunately 3 of them are this coming weekend. At Amy’s prompting (granted, a week late) here are my upcoming performances:

Dec. 14th, Aurora Symphony Orchestra, at the Gateway Center for the Performing Arts. It’s the annual holiday concert - this year with an Italian flavor. I’ll perform the Vivaldi Concerto in C for 2 Trumpets with a very nice young man who is a Doctoral student at CU. Also on the concert is Respighi’s Fountains of Rome, Corelli’s Christmas Concerto and a very nice Gabrielli brass choir piece. Here’s the full concert blurb. That’ll start at 7:30pm. Free pastry, if that’s an incentive (it is for me).

Dec. 15th at the Town Center at Aurora (formerly known as Aurora Mall). The ASO will provide music all afternoon, starting with small groups at 1:00pm and culminating with the full orchestra at 4:00pm. The ASO Brass Quintet (my group) will play from 2:00-3:00 that afternoon. The full orchestra will do some of the “regular” concert stuff (no Respighi), including the Vivaldi trumpet concerto. I’m fairly certain we’ll be near the food court.

Dec. 16th, the ASO will perform the holiday concert again (same as Friday). This one is in the afternoon, though, at 2:30.

Dec. 22nd, the Brass Quintet will perform at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in DTC. There is a Children’s program at 5:00pm, and the quintet will provide Christmas music immediately afterwards. Free coffee and cookies, if that’s an incentive (ummmm……it is for me!)

Sweet! Thanks, Rich! I am really looking forward to the concert on the 16th (we would have gone even if John wasn’t in charge of coffee) and hearing the quintet on the 22nd. Thanks for all your hard work!
