You’re where?

That’s my response to the horn player who attempted to use GoogleMaps to get to my house last night for a rehearsal. She only ended up 14 miles from where she was supposed to be. Heading in the wrong direction, too. Took her an additional hour (in rush hour traffic) to get to where she […]

Quotes of the week

Ah, a rich week indeed….
Sheryl Crow
All I wanna do is wipe my bum
Ace:
“Ms. Crowe shits lobster Thermidore and pisses melted butter.”
Goldstein:
“…Well, what we meant to say is, there was no al Qaeda in Iraq until colonialist oilsuckers like you FORCED THEM TO ENGAGE COALITION TROOPS ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS!
“So you see? Thoroughly […]

Capital gig

As mentioned last week, I played Taps at the State Capital yesterday. Senate Joint Resolution 32, by Senate President Joan Fitz-Gerald and Rep. Garza Hicks, names the 48 Colorado soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. The resolution also honors the […]

Live and in person

FYI, I’ll be at the state capital on Monday morning. Look for the devilishly handsome fellow with a trumpet playing Taps from (both houses) the balcony. Barring his appearance, I’ll be there.

Performance Alert

with days to spare, this time.
Arrange for the babysitter - Blazing Pianos is back. This Saturday at Bethany Lutheran in Cherry Hills Village. As with prior years, it will be a mix of old and new with some of the most….interesting arrangements you’ve heard. Included this year:
Camille Saint-Saëns; Carnival of the Animals
Handel: Music for […]

July 4

The Aurora Symphony Orchestra’s July 4th concert is next week. Guess what day?
Make an evening of it - the performance with the Rocky Mountain Brassworks begins at 8:00pm and ends at 9:15, just in time for the fireworks. There’s a great lawn between the Aurora Municipal Center and the Central Library that is perfect for […]

Concert Week

Yes, I know I’ve not posted recently. That’s what happens the weeks leading up to concerts. Ever since I fired the VP of Public Relations I’ve had to do all the advertising and concert program assembly myself. Fun.
So the Aurora Symphony Orchestra has its Holiday Folksong Extravaganza this weekend. I highly recommend that you come […]

I’d tell you, but

I’d tell you that there’s an Aurora Symphony concert tonight, but you wouldn’t come. I’d have told you last week about it so you’d plan for it, but you wouldn’t have planned for it. I’d warmly invite you, and maybe offer half price tickets, but you wouldn’t use them.
But don’t say I didn’t tell you!
Or […]

Blazing Pianos

I’m concertizing this weekend, if you’re interested. I played this concert last year, too. Yes, it really is called Blazing Pianos. It’s a two-piano concert at a fabulous venue - if you’ve never heard music performed at Bethany Lutheran in Cherry Hills, you’ve missed out. The two pianists have played this concert annually for years. […]

If you’re not doing anything later

Come hear the Aurora Symphony Orchestra tonight play at the Aurora Municipal Center for the 4th of July Spectacular. The orchestra will play from 8:00 - 9:15, leading up to the big fireworks display. This also gives you prime viewing for the fireworks, and you’ll get there before the rest of the crowd! The fireworks […]

Out of nowhere

You may have noticed that entries lately have centered on music. More specifically, my involvement in various music sundries. I didn’t mean for that to happen - I thought I’d quit the business. I didn’t realize it at the same but in retrospect I felt that God took me out of the madhouse for a […]

Rich in front of the state legislature!

To briefly recap the other day’s service at the state capital, Bugles Across America was invited (thanks to Craig Fischer) to be part of State Representative Mark Cloer’s resolution HJR05-1045(pdf):
Be It Resolved…
That we, the members of the General Assembly, honor the memory of the Coloradans who gave their lives in service to their country in […]

Keep an eye out

I played Taps at the state capital (both houses!) today, so it may make the news. There was a channel 7 camera right next to me, so start there. More on it tomorrow!

And I really do mean “performing”

And you thought that the state legislature was just a dog and pony show lately! I’ll be at the state capital tomorrow morning for State Representative Cloer’s resolution (pdf) honoring the sacrifice of Coloradans that have given their lives in service to their country while serving in Iraq.
It’s not often that my musical life […]
