And I really do mean “performing”

And you thought that the state legislature was just a dog and pony show lately! I’ll be at the state capital tomorrow morning for State Representative Cloer’s resolution (pdf) honoring the sacrifice of Coloradans that have given their lives in service to their country while serving in Iraq.
It’s not often that my musical life […]

Broaden your horizons

The Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra has a concert this coming Saturday and you should be there if for no other reason, than I am playing in it! Seriously, this is a very fine orchestra with a very fine conductor playing repetoire that you should be familiar with. Remember in his book In, But Not Of, Hugh […]

Trumpet-playin’ music

I’ve just found out what I’m playing in the next few concerts and I’m pumped. I’ve only just found out the music because I’ve been absent the last few rehearsals and never got to see my music ’till now (and that reminds me, if I can sightread my part way better than you can play […]

Piano?

I have a buddy here in Colorada who is looking to sell his Knabe 5-foot baby grand piano. It was built in 1976 and is in mint condition. It’s been appraised by Wells music at $5000. I think it’s actually in Colorado Springs at the moment.
Let me know.

Amahl and the Night Visitors

I’ve been lax lately reporting my performances, but this is one you just can’t miss. My church, the Lord of the Hills Lutheran church, decided some months ago to put on a little production and they decided on the Christmas classic Amahl and the Night Visitors. They asked me if I could help with the […]

Sleigh Ride

…is every orchestral musician’s theme song in hell, or it would appear so in a rehearsal for the Christmas favorite. Personally, I’ve always liked the tune (Blue Velvet, on the other hand, is a different story). Last Saturday the Arapahoe Phil played the annual Christmans concert, and I had the opportunity to play on the […]

Now playing

Ridiculously busy lately, sorry. Before another day goes by, though I want to give you a heads up about a concert I’m playing this Saturday. The Arapahoe Philharmonic is having their Christmas concert and it should be a rousing good time. There is quite a good deal of music - both quantity and quality, I […]

On the radio

You all heard me on The Mountain yesterday, of course. I know, I know - a resounding success. My phone didn’t stop ringing all day.
I’m kidding, of course. I didn’t tell anyone that I’d be on (except Mom) so I doubt anyone I know heard it at all. After Monday’s stint on KEZW my station […]

Advance Notice

I’ve been asked for advance notice for when I play, and there are a couple coming up this week (hey - didn’t I quit this business?)
First, the Aurora Symphony Orchestra is playing both Friday and Saturday nights at the Gateway Performing Arts Center, then I’m playing at Bethany Lutheran (hey look, Ma, I’m a handbell!) […]

Concert tonight

For anyone that is interested, I will be performing tonight at Bethany Lutheran church in Denver. The actual title of the performace is Blazing Pianos V, An Invitation to the Dance. It is a two piano concert, and I (and two other musicians) are added to the second half. Really wonderful music, too, don’t miss […]

Audition results are in

Remember I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I had a symphony audition? Well, it was last Saturday. And it turned out to be two auditions, at that.
I went Saturday to audition for the Arapahoe Philharmonic - not a regular position, but a “sub” position. That means that if one of the other […]

Preparing for stress

I am preparing an audition for the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and, out of curiousity, I did a Google search for “Orchestral trumpet auditions”. One of the first things that pops up is a link to the Chicago Symphony site. Apparently there is an opening for principal trumpet there. FYI, this is the premier orchestral principal […]

Music

Dale just sent me this link - hours of time wasting here. This is the ultimate in “if like this band/singer you’l also like…” Try it.
